Cranberry Sauce Recipe

Cranberry Sauce Recipe

Christmas is nearly upon us and you’ve probably planned most of your feast. But don’t forget the little things – this cranberry sauce recipe is quick and simple and can form either your main approach to the best Turkey accompaniment or even as an emergency mix should your shop bought sauce not make the grade!

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 15 minutes

Yield: 2 cups (and a little more)

200g of sugar

250 ml of water

12 oz fresh or frozen cranberries

Optional pecans, orange zest, raisins, currants, blueberries, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice.

Rinse the cranberries in a colander. Remove any that are bruised or damaged. Put the water and sugar in a medium saucepan on a high heat and bring to boil. Stir the sugar until dissolved.

Add the cranberries to the pot and bring back to boil before lowering to simmer for 10 minutes or until most cranberries have burst.

Once this has happened you can either leave the sauce as it is (it really is THAT simple!) or dress it up with some of the additional extras. Orange always goes will with cranberries, and raisins or currants can add sweetness. Spices can add a little more Christmas if required!!

Once completed, let the sauce cool at room temperature before transferring to a bowl for refrigeration. The sauce will thicken as it cools so be sure not to make it too thick before you’re finished!

Then serve and enjoy with your meal!
