Where can you find some sizzling winter sun?

Picking out a destination to go on a¬†2014 or 2015 winter sun break is an important decision. Here’s our selection of the best destinations for fun in the sun this winter…

One of the biggest favourites for many Brits during winter is the Canary Islands where daily temperatures are around 20 degrees. Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura are the most popular islands, but you should also consider the smaller La Gomera and La Palma which offer a softer and humbler surrounding. Many of the destinations are ideal for cheap winter sun breaks and you’ll find some great value deals.

But there are many more possibilities…

The Carefree Caribbean

The Caribbean is a large collection of more than 7,000 islands grouped into 28 separate island nations. The winter months are without a doubt the best time to visit, as hurricane season is over and temperatures can go up to 30 degrees.

The islands of the Dominican Republic and Cuba have direct charter flights from the UK and most of them offer all-inclusive deals at budget prices. The classic islands of Barbados, Jamaica, St Lucia and Antigua offer excellent quality and white-sand-blue-ocean beaches.

And there are other great options in the Caribbean to explore too such as the Cayman Islands and the Bahamas(excellent for diving), Grenada(the Spice Island), and Trinidad and Tobago (renowned for carnivals). And, of course, pretty little St Kitts and Nevis or St Vincent and the Grenadines including Mustique, one of the favourite retreats of the rich and famous.

Fun in Florida

Florida is still an exciting winter sun destination, whether you head to the theme park areas of Orlando complemented by a spot of sunbathing by the pool or you opt to stay in the Gulf Coast resorts such as St Petersburg or Clearwater. Alternatively, you can also go to South Beach in Miami for sunbathing by day and partying with the locals by night. Do try to drive down to the Florida Keys and enjoy an ideal winter break.

The Inspiring Indian Ocean

Indian Ocean destinations are also on our big-hit-list. On its eastern shores you can find Thailand with the famous resorts of Phuket and the Phi Phi islands. But don’t forget Thailand’s other great winter sun locations of Koh Samui, Pattaya and Krabi.

If you travel more to the west you’ll bump into Sri Lanka, shaped like a tear drop at the southern end of India and lined with magnificent beaches, Buddhist temples and its well-known elephants.

Another marvellous destination is Goa with its mixture of Indo-Portuguese culture, full moon parties and sweeping golden sands. Or, head over to the Maldives for a tropical island paradise to relax 100%.

Next are the Seychelles and Mauritius, a region well-known by honeymooners including our very own Prince William and Kate.

Finally, the Kenyan coast around Mombasa offers lazy days on Indian Ocean beaches and the chance to combine your holiday with a mini safari to see the Big 5 of Africa.
